Avocations at La Bonita

Avocado harvests -- connecting to nature, team building, and fun

Calling all avocado lovers!

Why not join us during our Bacon, Fuerte and Hass avocado harvests? This is a wonderful activity for solo travellers, friends, families and work colleagues because no matter your age or level of fitness you can join in. Everyone taking part will come away with a wealth of knowledge about avocados, will have experienced at first hand the satisfaction of harvesting food and will have a new perspective on what's involved in running a sub-tropical and citrus fruit farm.

Everyone on an Avocation gets involved in the harvest, and no matter the weather, the fact that you are outside, physically engaging with nature, under the trees, touching and harvesting the fruit, makes for an unforgettable experience. There is simply no better way to connect to others than to go back and do what our ancestors did for thousands of years -- and that is to gather food and then sit down together to a homecooked meal.

You will learn all there is to know about avocados -- why they grow where they grow and the different types of avocado -- as well as how to pick and handle them whilst harvesting. We wish to share our passion for sustainably grown food and to allow guests to engage with the plants, the surroundings and each other in a positive way. Avocations are all about working together in a group, communication, and most importantly, connection to each other, nature and oneself.

Guests will also visit the cooperative where we deliver the fruit and eat avocado with the home-cooked lunch every day.

Avocations of 2-5 days are ideal. Please note that this is a non-residential 'vacation' which means you stay in a hotel of your choice -- be it in the locality, on the coast or Malaga city -- and you pop up to the farm for the day. Avocations are a full-day activity with a homecooked lunch and drinks included. Prices vary depending on group size

The Short Tour

July & August 2019 - available every day, booking essential

This 2-hour tour is perfect for those visitors who are short on time or perhaps are on their way to another location further inland yet wish to pop-in and learn about avocados and citrus fruits. This farm tour allows visitors to experience at first hand what an avocado and citrus farm is like, what a drip-feed irrigation system looks like and how it works, and the different types of avocados and fruit trees that grow here.

We strongly advise the wearing of comfortable walking shoes as we shall be on uneven fields and terraces. At the end of your tour, you will be able to enjoy a glass of Moscatel wine and some homemade tapas.

Our tour can be in English, Spanish or German. Please contact us to book and confirm time of tour.

Price 55€ per person. Children under 12 free.

Full Day Tour & Farm Stays

Private Full Day Tour (includes home-cooked lunch)

A short drive from the Costa del Sol, our finca is the perfect destination for those who want to experience authentic inland Spain and see a working farm on a one-to-one basis. As we show you around the hacienda you will learn about avocados, lemons, pecan nut, and olive oil production. Depending on the time of year you will also take part in farming activities, such as planting a tree, helping to pick oranges or avocados, or checking the drip feed irrigation. We aim to make your stay as memorable as possible. In the summer, you are welcome to enjoy the pool.

The Full Day Tour is an exclusive visit so you and your family will be the only guests during your visit to our farm. [Please be advised that because we are a working farm, the Private Full Day Tour is not available at all times of the year. Please contact us to check availability and prices.]

Summer Farm Stays

This summer we shall be offering overnight Farm Stays in July and August, so guests can enjoy the beauty of inland Andalusia as part of their holiday to southern Spain. A minimum of 2 nights is required to make a booking. Please contact us for further information giving dates requested and whether half or full-board is required.

Our location makes La Bonita an ideal springboard for those travellers wishing to explore Malaga, Cordoba, Ronda, Caminito del Rey, and the white villages in the surrounding area, as they are all accessible as day trips. Alternatively, you're more than welcome to enjoy the farm and pool, and the gentle cicada song in the evening over drinks under the stars.
