Botanical Art with Shevaun Doherty

Updated: Jan 24, 2020

Shevaun Doherty has held several botanical retreats at La Bonita. Her most recent workshop 'Avocados, Olives and Honeybees' was in October 2019, when she again welcomed guests, this time from Europe and USA. Her wonderfully friendly approach quickly allowed the 'students' to ease into their lessons which were held down by the pool.

A number of guests enjoyed the facilities at La Bonita on a full-board basis, whilst others opted to stay locally or in Malaga, the provincial capital which is only a 30-40 minute drive away. Home-cooked lunch was served outside every day under the shade of the main house and one evening we all enjoyed tapas in the village of Coin.

During the retreat, Shevaun spent time looking at texture and colour, using avocados and other fruits from the farm to illustrate her method of painting. She also shared her knowledge on bees allocating a full day's teaching on how to capture this beautiful insect in watercolour. There was also a class on painting on vellum.

Her next botanical retreat will be held 14th-19th May 2020 -- 'Fiesta de la Naranja'. The dates have been especially chosen to coincide with the fiesta in Coin which celebrates the end of the orange harvest.
